I never thought this would happen to me. But one day, when I was walking home from Revenant High, I saw him. Unlike me, he had eerie graveyard dirt skin and black hair with waves similarly shaped to my favorite snack, millipedes. I was so curious about this creature. Mama Ghoul always told me that humans were the evil ones trying to make our kind extinct. However, he didn’t look evil; he was just sitting in the grass of this empty field, painting. Suddenly he saw me and his green eyes which were colored like my skin, met mine. I expected him to run, but he smiled and started to walk over. He came up to me and asked my name. “Desdemona,” I replied. He told me his name, “Alexander.” Instead of him trying to hurt me, he just talked to me. I had the morbidly beautiful feeling of maggots in my stomach whenever he complimented me. Day after day, I would go back to the field to talk to him and he taught me how to paint. Strangely, I had no desire to eat his brains, and I just wanted to be with him. He told me that we must keep our friendship a secret. Although I don’t know the word and I don’t want to be just friends; I have enough ghoul friends. I wanted to be with Alexander, but of course, no one could know. I knew that I was in love with this human. A human I could never be with, at least out in the open. I mean everyone knows that a zombie and a human aren’t supposed to be together. But as for now, I’m going to keep going to the field to see him. Do you ghouls think the next time that I should bring him my cerebrum casserole with a side of my favorite millipedes?
